Shemayne Yarde looks at the trends which are taking the current season by storm.
Bold Prints. Everyone’s talking about them, and they sort of always have. This season, think digital prints, florals and geometric patterns; the days for small, girly and cute are long gone. If you look like you could be hanging in the Tate Modern, you’re probably good to go.
Armani Prive’s collection showcased different cultures at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. He lined the runway with a multitude of colourful satin and collarless jackets. The collection has a certain tribal edge due to the geometric patterns and the way the clothes are made. In one particular outfit with an overzealous red necklace (pictured below) we can see the way the waistline for the skirt has been gathered, bunching the fabric and confusing its pattern for another interesting dimension.
Now, we mustn’t forget the accessories which add to the ethnic vibes which Armani Prive bring to the catwalk. They are large and pleasantly over the top, the earrings varying from round and shoulder-length to long and angular. What Armani doesn’t do is add two striking pieces together; if he includes dramatic earrings it will be accompanied by either an understated necklace or none at all. All in moderation, and rightly so
However it’s not all doom and gloom for us poor students, because with the release of the new Topshop Lookbook SS13 I am happy to say they are onboard with not only outrageous print combinations but with exciting cuts and textures to boot.
